As the movie progresses, it is revealed that Arun and Imran are, in fact, agents of Dawood deployed to assassinate Yashwant Sinha. They devised a plan and mounted a bomb in the underground drainage. Raam's family suspected nothing of it. As Yashwant Sinha was returning home after his work, the criminal duo triggered the bomb, killing him instantly. Raam, who was talking to his neighbor Tulasi, was shocked and found the bombers fleeing. He tried to catch them, but failed.

It successfully completed 175 days in many centers of Karnataka[1] and became a career highlight for actor Shivarajkumar. This movie's credit goes to Shivarajkumar, Ramu, Om Prakash Rao, Hamsalekha and writers duo M. S. Ramesh and R. Rajshekhar. Half of the film has Hindi dialogue. Om Puri's Hindi punch dialogues got good appreciation. Ex: "Mera joote ka naam bhi Dawood hai" (transl. Even my shoe's name is Dawood), "Maarne ke liye naa tu Godse, marne ke liye naa main Gandhi" (transl. You are neither a Godse to kill, I am neither a Gandhi to be dead) impressed non-Kannada audience also. It's considered one of the best action films in Kannada cinema of all time.

Sheriff Vaughn hires an old high school pal named Ray Templeton to be his deputy. The role is played by Johnny Knoxville, famous for "Jackass," who is, in fact, completely convincing and probably has a legitimate movie career ahead of him and doesn't have to stuff his underpants with dead chickens and hang upside down over alligator ponds any more.

The scenes establishing all of these events are handled efficiently and have a certain interest, but then the movie, alas, goes on autopilot with a series of improbable fight scenes that are so heavy on stunts and special effects that we might as well be watching a cartoon. This is an action movie, pure and simple, and one can only wonder what the late Buford Pusser would have made of it. Maybe he would have advised Sheriff Vaughn that times have changed and he should forget the oak club and get himself an AK-47.

The Rock comes out of the movie more or less intact, career-wise. I've felt from the beginning that he had the makings of a movie star, and I still think so; he has a kind of inner quiet that allows him to inhabit preposterous scenes without being overwhelmed by them. His acting style is flat and uninflected, authoritative without pushing it; he's a little like John Wayne that way.

Every year Bollywood witnesses the entry of some new faces and talents. While some succeed in displaying their talents, the remaining lot just makes it till showcasing their pretty faces. Some have none. And like every year, 2004 too had a lineup of new actors and actresses or let's say wannabe stars of the glamour world. But alas this year the array of newcomers was not as proficient as compared to the recent past couple of years.

The last debut of 2004 comes in the form of Soha Ali Khan , daughter of yesteryear actress Sharmila Tagore and cricketer Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi and sister of Saif Ali Khan. This Sharmila Tagore clone will be next seen in Rituparno Ghosh's Antar Mahal and Vashu Bhagnani's Shaadi No.1
