But Dee could turn his vocals to many styles, and inbetween the high camp quiff Richardisms and duh-duh-duh-duh doo-wop stylings, he found time to cut a version (above) of Baby What You Want Me To Do that instantly conjures up lazy images of the deep south and makes me want to pour a decent measure of sour mash, fire up a crawfish gumbo and let the good times roll. Terrific too.

Spiritual music is influenced by Christian music and traditional African music. A popular genre for African Americans, it has origins in oral traditions. The harmonious sound is a distinct feature of modern spiritual music, created through choral pieces for choirs.
Involving improvisation, early spiritual music was unaccompanied. Spread orally, and pieces were eventually recorded in hymnbooks. The mass singing style was popular at large religious gatherings between the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. Later, melodies and instrumental accompaniment were added.
Pieces tend to begin with higher male voices; women and basses soon join in an octave above or below. A call and response pattern was a popular structure in early spiritual music. Later, common refrains and verses meant that improvisation was popular. Fell out of fashion in the nineteenth century as European hymn styles spread.
With so many brands looking for indie talent to help their ads connect with the audience, it seems like the question "anyone know who made the song from the such-and-such ad?" is becoming more popular on music message boards. Bands who sell their songs to ads don't always face a backlash these days, and some see commercials as just another way to get their music to the public (although a fat check doesn't exactly hurt the cause). Are TV commercials becoming the new radio?
